Camp Chaverim will soon begin....

If you are still looking for fun summer activities for your children....look no more.....
Camp Chaverim at the JCC is the place to be this summer. We enroll children ages 18moths old through 8th grade. Our campus has a beautiful olympic size swimming pool, full size gymnasium,
youth activity lounge, swimming lessons, cultural activities, and much much more. Our counselors are the very best in the city. Once your children have been to Camp Chaverim you will be back again and again. I know, because most of the kids that attend Camp Chaverim wind up working as counselors one day! For more information please contact me.
Have a wonderful safe summer. I will be blogging and posting again in the fall!

Kindergarten Cram

Written by Peggy Orenstein: Re: The Way We Live Now...Excerpt:

"According to "Crisis in the Kindergarten" a report recently released by the Alliance for Childhood, a non profit research and advocacy group, all that pre-kindergarten testing is wasted; it neither predicts nor improves young children's educational outcomes. More disturbing, along with other academic demands, like assigning homework to five year olds, it is crowding out the one thing that truly is vital to their future success: play!!!!!!"

I couldn't have stated it any better. Please go this website to view the entire article
www.nytimes.com/2009/05/03/magazine and look for Kindergarten Cram.

Please post any of your questions or comments and I will get back to you.

Until next time,
Carmela

Carmela's World....A place where all questions are welcome

Hello Families,
I am very excited to unveil our new website as well as my very first blogspot.
This is going to be a place where you can ask questions, fill us in on your adventures, share your good news, children's birthdays, etc.
I will post a question or comment once a week and expect some participation.
The world of education is constantly changing and we at the UJC are up for any challenge.

Please be certain to visit this site often and let's hope that my blog reaches the one million reader mark. (I have great expectations!) For your information, I also can be followed on twitter and on facebook.

Best Always,
Carmela
